Creative Scientist Director & Nature Advocate

A Creative Director Capturing the Co-Existence Between Humans & Nature

Hi, my name is Anie Los Kawm Khang

Throughout my career, I have always coordinated and designed photo sets for beauty portraits. However, I want to move away from this and focus my energy on creating work that resonates with me morally, ethically, and academically.

Gifted the name that means “to learn,” I use my Hmong name to represent my work and brand. To do this, I use my academic background and passion in sustainability and political science/advocacy to advance my personal knowledge on this topic, along with educating the people around me. My mission is to create art that is sustainable and thought-provoking in hopes to educate and bring awareness to climate change, conservation, environmental justice, and human interaction with nature.

My portfolio consists of beauty portraits, fur baby portraits, fun and creative headshots, and woke nature photoshoots.

los kawm was founded in 2025.

My Most Recent Projects

  • A Place Called Home

My first solo project where I directed and photographed all the images. This project centers around the idea of humans experiencing human emotions while being in nature.

  • RIP-OFF: THE MISCONCEPTIONS OF SUSTAINABILITY

This was my first large-scale production that was in collaboration with Studio Apparatus for the 2025 Winter Artist Residency Program. RIP-OFF is meant to educate and provide insight to the audience how we participate in sustainability in a negative way.

My Portfolio

My work consists of fur babies, portraits, creative and unconventional headshots/group photos, and woke nature photoshoots.

More About Me

Nature plays an integral role not just in my work but also in my entire life. I think that one of the most profound moments in my life was when I went to Glacier National Park (still my favorite national parks) with my family and I was in awe of just everything. From the mountain peaks to the peaceful Lake MacDonald, I felt moved beyond words.

My dedication and advocating for nature came during the COVID-19 pandemic. During that time, I was glued to the news where I would read all the good and bad things that was happening in society. One of the most riveting news articles that I read that changed the whole trajectory of my life was an article that stated how nature was thriving from the lockdown because there was little human activity. This made me realize that if we, humans, are to fully live out our best lives on Earth, we must learn to appreciate and do the work to conserve Earth.

With that, I quit my full-time job to pursue a college degree(s) that would help me gain the academic knowledge and resources to help educate people in how humans can co-exist with Earth. Through my academic journey, I have come to learn that there really is no right way and that it’s tough to educate people about such a topic because we have been programmed to support capitalism, colonialism, and individualism. However, I create educational work for myself to remind others that we need to fight for Nature because we are the ones who benefit most from its abundance. I hope that throughout my ever-changing and revolutionary creative advocacy work, I can inspire you to feel yourself being present in the glorious presence of nature.

Why Nature Matters

The Story Behind My Logo

When I came up with the initial ideas of my logo, I wanted to create something that represented me as a person along with my educational background.

The tiny little human with the purple hair: This represents me as a just a human who is present.

Birthday Hat: Resembles the celebration of just living life in my most authentic form.

Magnifying Glass: To represent my love for science even though I’m not the best at it

Flowers: My go-to nature thing that I love the most

Camera: Representing the documentation of the things that I see in natural spaces

Education is Important

As a political scientist with a background in environmental science and communication, my focus is to bring awareness along with finding solutions to how humans can co-exist with nature in a way that is beneficial to both. I want to create a society where humans are more in tune with the reverberations of nature so that we can create a symbiotic relationship that will allow Earth to flourish.

I use my academic background to help me create art that is meaningful, purposeful, sustainable, and thought-provoking.
